Q&A

What is a 4-3-3 formation in football?

A 4-3-3 formation is a popular tactical setup in football featuring four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards. It is known for balancing strong defensive stability with an aggressive attacking style across the pitch.

In this system, the back four usually consists of two central defenders and two fullbacks who push up the flanks to support attacks. The three midfielders often include a defensive anchor and two more advanced players to control the tempo. The front three typically feature a central striker flanked by two wingers who stretch the opponent's defense wide.

Teams use this structure to maintain possession and press opponents high up the pitch. The setup is flexible and can easily shift into a more defensive shape when a team loses the ball.
